It is introduced that the origin of the kendama, while its ancestor cup-and-ball arrived to Japan supposedly in the 18th century, dates back to the early 1920s that mass production of those, with a newly equipped pair of cups on both sides of body as its distinctive characteristics, has been started in today's Hatsukaichi City area.
